The Ponderings of Donna Monty

I’m so tired….apparently one of jk rowling friends/allies is very happy on Twitter that lesbian couple are being taken off their children’s birth certificates in italy…and rowling is being very quiet about the whole thing…it seems that all she has seen to be talking about twitter lately is anti trans things and and women’s rights and yet on this issue she doesn’t seem bothered and won’t stand up against her bigoted friend…I will always hold Harry potter dear to me for what it gave me as kid but all I see how when i look at jk Rowling is a rich out of touch white woman who doesn’t care about vulnerable minorities and it breaks my heart…it’s so disappointing

Yuuuuuuuuuup.

Out of touch is the nice way to describe how awful she’s been. Blatantly antagonist and cowardly is another.

But the great thing is this -

  • While monopolized, she did not create the magic school trope! I can recommend authors who have done a much better job!
  • There are a number of ways you can support trans rights
  • You’re not alone with feeling angry that a woman who made an entire series about children fighting oppressive forces only to become an oppressive force

Let her legacy fade into distant memory as generations of kinder authors lead the way

Ao3 is actually massively culturally important and very very good at being what it is. I’m so serious when I say that ao3 needs to be protected as the anti censorship, by fans for fans, nonprofit, volunteer run, expertly designed archival site that it is. You don’t have to read or like fanfiction to understand that on principle, ao3 is a site that should be defended.

Aegon: I’d throw away my life for you. I would go atop of Sunfyre and burn cities to the ground and roast people in their homes. I would take up a sword and cut down anyone who opposes you. And when they come calling for my head, I’ll drop it at your feet so that you may earn their good graces.

Jace: …

Jace: Aegon we’ve talked about this.
